The final event of the Friday home schedule was an intense battle between two of the Big 8 Conference's elite teams, and the Falcons came away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Delta College at a packed Falcon Stadium. The Mustangs entered the match with a sparkling 6-0 record while the Falcons were 3-0-1, so the expectations of a tight game were in place. The match lived up to the billing as both teams tackled, attacked, and rooted with intensity. In the 32nd minute, Folsom Lake's freshman scoring leader Sarah Freed took a perfect pass from sophomore Riley Spitzer and sent it past the Mustang goalkeeper for the game's only goal. As the match wore on, the tension mounted with Delta attacking, looking for the tying goal that the Falcons refused to allow.
The victory gives the Falcons an early 2-0 record in Big 8 play with a showdown against perennial heavyweight Santa Rosa looming on Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Stadium (3:30 pm).
