Folsom Lake’s Balance and Chemistry Continue to Fuel Their Success
The Folsom Lake College men's soccer team continued its impressive form this week, picking up two statement victories to strengthen its hold atop the conference standings. The Falcons held off American River 2–1 at home on October 14, then carried that momentum on the road with a 3–1 win at San Joaquin Delta on October 17.
Both matches highlighted Folsom Lake's quick-strike attack, organized defending, and relentless energy on both ends of the pitch.
Falcons Strike Early, Hold Off Late Push from American River
Tuesday night's match against American River showcased Folsom Lake's ability to start strong and stay composed under pressure. The Falcons wasted no time taking control, with Eric Herasymchuk breaking through in the 5th minute to put Folsom Lake on the board early.
Later in the first half, Garrett Veirs doubled the lead in the 33rd minute with a precise finish past the Beavers' keeper. Veirs' performance, which included two shots on goal, reflected his growing impact as one of Folsom's most consistent offensive threats.
Goalkeeper Fernando Garcia held American River scoreless through the first half with a key save, while Danny Tejeda stepped in for the second half to help secure the 2–1 win despite a late goal from American River's Carson Steele.
Midfielders Nathaniel Fong and Blake Garcia provided stability in possession, while defenders Edgar Vega and James Murillo anchored the backline and absorbed heavy pressure late in the match.
With the win, Folsom Lake improved to 8–3–1 overall and 4–0 in conference play.
Team Effort Lifts Falcons Over San Joaquin Delta
The Falcons hit the road just three days later, and once again, their balanced attack proved too much to handle. Despite conceding an early goal, Folsom Lake quickly responded in the 20th minute when Veirs connected on a cross from Vega to tie the match 1–1.
In the second half, Herasymchuk delivered yet again, slotting home a go-ahead goal in the 70th minute off a clever setup from Samuel Arnold. The Falcons sealed the victory ten minutes later when Thualfikar Alaskati powered through the Delta defense for an unassisted strike, capping the 3–1 win.
Goalkeeper Fernando Garcia had a standout performance, recording five saves and keeping Delta off the scoreboard in the second half. His composure and communication from the back helped the Falcons stay organized and limit scoring chances.
The backline, led by Vega, Murillo, and Herasymchuk, showcased strong defensive chemistry, denying Delta any sustained pressure as the Falcons cruised to their second win of the week.
Falcons Rolling with Confidence
After two decisive victories, Folsom Lake now stands at 9–3–1 overall and 5–0 in conference play, extending their winning streak and building momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
The Falcons continue to demonstrate a balance of disciplined defending and efficient scoring, with Veirs and Herasymchuk emerging as key offensive leaders. Head coach [Coach's Name] praised the squad's energy and execution, saying, "We're finding our rhythm. The guys are trusting each other, playing with confidence, and showing what Falcon soccer is all about."
Folsom Lake will return to action next week, looking to maintain its unbeaten conference record and solidify its position as one of the top programs in Northern California.
