Falcons Show Resilience, Defensive Highlights Despite Tough Day on the Diamond

The Folsom Lake College Falcons may have faced a pair of tough losses at home against powerhouse San Joaquin Delta, but the grit and growth on display showed this young squad is focused on building for the future.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, the Falcons put a run on the board early thanks to heads-up baserunning by freshman Marianna Prieto, who crossed home on a well-placed ball by Kamora Baptiste that forced an error and gave Folsom Lake early momentum. Defensively, the Falcons turned a slick double play involving Melia Ritchie, Annika Scheafer, and Prieto that ended a threatening inning for Delta and showcased their communication and hustle.

On the mound, Prieto also took the circle and battled through two innings before giving way to Melia Ritchie and Cyriahna Lathipanya-Kham, who each logged valuable innings and helped slow Delta's momentum late in the game. Lathipanya-Kham's 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with three walks and no earned runs was a particular bright spot.

The second game saw another defensive gem for Folsom Lake, with the infield flashing leather in turning their second double play of the day. Catcher Annika Scheafer threw out a runner to stop a potential rally, and the Falcons kept their energy high through all seven innings.

Despite the final scores (9-1 and 10-0), the Falcons showed promise at the plate, with Aniya Cruz and Scheafer each contributing hits and reaching base against Delta's ace, Lily Alamillo. The team also drew several walks and displayed patience at the plate, a testament to their continued offensive development.

Head Coach Grahlman praised the team's effort, saying, "These girls are learning with every pitch. We're focusing on the positives—our improved defense, the at-bats we're grinding out, and the chemistry that's growing each game. That's what success is built on."

As the Falcons look ahead to the next matchups, the building blocks are there: resilience, effort, and a commitment to getting better every day. With each game, they are taking steps forward—together.
