Falcons Fly Out of the Gate: Folsom Lake Softball Opens Season with Statement Wins and Gritty Battles

The Falcons couldn't have scripted a much stronger start to the 2026 campaign.

Across six early-season home contests, Folsom Lake showcased everything you want from a contender — explosive offense, shutdown pitching, speed on the bases, and the composure to win tight games. The result? A dominant opening stretch highlighted by multiple run-rule style wins, two clutch late-inning victories, and a team identity that's already clicking.

From 16-run outbursts to 1–0 pitcher's duels, the Falcons proved they can win any style of game.

Game 1: Falcons 16, Chabot 4

Bats explode in statement opener

Folsom Lake wasted no time setting the tone for the season, erupting for 17 hits and 16 runs in a five-inning rout of Chabot.

A six-run first inning broke the game open immediately, and the Falcons never looked back.

Key performances:

The Falcons scored in every inning and combined power with speed, swiping bases and stretching singles into extra bases. It was an offensive clinic and a clear message: this lineup is dangerous from top to bottom.

Game 2: Falcons 12, Chabot 4

Balanced attack completes the sweep

Game two featured more of the same firepower as the Falcons piled up 14 hits and 12 runs to finish the doubleheader sweep.

After falling behind early, Folsom Lake responded with steady pressure, scoring in five different innings.

Highlights:

The depth of the lineup shined, with production coming from nearly every spot.

Game 3: Falcons 2, Butte 1

Shea silences Butte in pitcher's duel

When the bats cooled, the pitching heated up.

In a tense defensive battle, Kiley Shea delivered a complete-game gem, tossing 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 7 strikeouts.

After Butte tied it in the fifth, the Falcons manufactured the walk-off style winner in the seventh when Marianna Prieto doubled home Caton Strieff.

Small ball. Timely hitting. Clutch pitching. Championship ingredients.

Game 4: Falcons 6, Ohlone 1

Habkirk dominates with 14 punchouts

This one belonged to Sarah Habkirk.

The sophomore ace struck out 14 batters in a complete-game three-hitter, overpowering Ohlone hitters all afternoon.

Meanwhile, the offense kept applying pressure:

  • Brooklyn Denina: 2 runs, RBI double

  • Prieto: 2 hits, RBI

  • Aguiling: RBI, stolen base

  • Falcons swiped five bases

Pitching + speed = problems for opponents.

Game 5: Falcons 1, Merced 0

Another shutout, another clutch swing

Defense ruled again.

Kiley Shea twirled her second complete-game masterpiece of the week, striking out 11 while allowing just four hits.

The only run came off Hailey Permenter's RBI double in the fifth — all the Falcons would need.

Winning 16–4 is fun. Winning 1–0 shows toughness. This team has both.

⚔️ Game 6: Merced 5, Falcons 4

Late rally shows fight

Even in defeat, the Falcons showed grit.

Down 4–0, Folsom Lake stormed back when Melanie Stephens crushed a bases-clearing triple to tie the game in the fifth. Though Merced reclaimed the lead late, the comeback effort reinforced this team's resilience.

Early Season Snapshot

What stands out:

  • Multiple double-digit run games

  • Three dominant complete-game pitching performances

  • Speed on the bases

  • Contributions throughout the lineup

  • Ability to win both blowouts and nail-biters

Players like Aguiling, Stephens, Denina, Nielsen, Walker, Habkirk, and Shea have already emerged as tone-setters, but the depth across the roster may be the Falcons' biggest weapon.

The Takeaway

Through the first stretch of games, Folsom Lake looks sharp, confident, and connected.

They're hitting for power, manufacturing runs, stealing bases, and getting elite pitching.

If this opening run is any indication, the Falcons aren't just starting fast — they're building something special.

And it's only February.
