Falcons Grind Through Tough Slate, Rally for Road Split

After a demanding stretch of conference and non-conference play beginning March 3, Folsom Lake softball showed resilience and flashes of dominance, culminating in a hard-fought split on the road against Modesto on March 21.

The Falcons navigated a challenging slate, going toe-to-toe with San Joaquin Delta, Cosumnes River, Feather River, West Valley, and Sierra. Highlights included a doubleheader split with Delta, a strong 7-5 road win over Cosumnes River, and a thrilling 10-9 victory against Feather River. Despite a few close losses—including a pair of tight games against West Valley and a conference setback to Sierra—Folsom Lake remained competitive throughout, consistently putting pressure on opponents.

That resilience was on full display in Modesto.

In game one of the doubleheader, the Falcons' offense exploded for 10 runs on 15 hits, building what seemed to be a commanding 10-3 lead heading into the late innings. Brooklyn Denina led the charge with three hits and two RBIs, while Melanie Stephens added a two-run double. Joey Jacobs and Hailey Permenter each drove in two runs, and contributions came throughout the lineup as Folsom Lake executed offensively with consistency.

However, Modesto answered with a dramatic seven-run sixth inning to erase the deficit, eventually walking off with an 11-10 win in the seventh. Despite the tough loss, the Falcons' offensive production and aggressive approach at the plate highlighted their potential.

Folsom Lake responded immediately in game two with a complete and composed performance, earning a 9-2 victory to salvage the split. Marianna Prieto delivered a standout performance both in the circle and at the plate. She tossed a complete game, limiting Modesto to just five hits and two runs, while also driving in four runs offensively, including a key two-run double.

The Falcons once again showcased their depth offensively. Denina collected three more hits, Haylie Alkire added three of her own, and Mariah Aguiling contributed with extra-base power and run production. Timely hitting and situational execution allowed Folsom Lake to steadily build and maintain control throughout the game.

Over the course of the stretch, Folsom Lake demonstrated grit, offensive firepower, and the ability to bounce back after adversity. While the results have been mixed, the Falcons continue to prove they can compete with anyone, setting the stage for a strong push as conference play continues.
