Falcons Close Strong, Set Sights on NorCal Regional Showdown

Folsom Lake softball is heading into the postseason with resilience and momentum.

The Falcons wrapped up their recent stretch with a 6–2 victory over Modesto on April 23, bouncing back after a challenging road trip and showing flashes of the balanced play they'll rely on in the NorCal Regional Playoffs. Folsom Lake now turns its focus to a May 1 first-round matchup against Hartnell College.

The past few weeks tested the Falcons. In a doubleheader against Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake split results in dramatic fashion—falling just short in a 4–3 battle before erupting for a dominant 15–1 run-rule victory in five innings. The team then hit the road to face Sierra, where they dropped both ends of a doubleheader (5–0 and 9–5), setting up a crucial bounce-back opportunity at home.

They delivered.

Against Modesto, Folsom Lake wasted no time taking control, exploding for four runs in the first inning. RBI contributions from Danika Walker, Sophia Nielsen, and Kaleigh Frazer powered the early surge, immediately putting the Falcons in command.

The offense continued to produce in the third inning, as Walker delivered an RBI double and Frazer added another run-scoring hit to extend the lead to 6–0. In total, the Falcons tallied eight hits with multiple players contributing key RBIs, showcasing a lineup capable of generating pressure throughout.

Inside the circle, Kiley Shea set the tone with four dominant, hitless innings, striking out six while working around three walks. After a brief Modesto push in the fourth inning, the Falcons' pitching staff settled in. Sarah Habkirk closed out the game with 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out six and securing the win.

Defensively and offensively, the Falcons showed the kind of composure needed for postseason play—responding to adversity and executing in key moments.

Now, the stakes rise.

Folsom Lake will face Hartnell College on May 1 in the opening round of the NorCal Regional Playoffs. With a mix of explosive offense and strong pitching performances, the Falcons enter the postseason ready to compete and looking to extend their season.

If their latest performance is any indication, Folsom Lake is a team capable of making noise when it matters most.
