Falcons Soar Over Panthers, Defeat Hawks in Strong Week
The Folsom Lake Falcons showcased resilience and skill this past week, earning back-to-back victories against Sacramento City and Cosumnes River. The Falcons improved their record to 13-2 overall and 3-0 in Big 8 conference play.
Falcons vs. Panthers: Commanding Victory
The Falcons took control early and never looked back in their matchup against the Panthers at the North Gym on January 2, 2025. A balanced team effort led to a wire-to-wire victory, with the Falcons' defense holding Sacramento City to just 27.8% shooting from the field and a mere 16% from beyond the arc.
Livi Fernandez delivered a standout performance, leading all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Jasmine Clee contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the boards alongside her teammates. Emily Bowman provided a strong spark off the bench, adding 10 points in just nine minutes of action. In total, the Falcons outrebounded the Panthers 41-26 and tallied 24 assists, exemplifying their cohesive play.
Falcons vs. Hawks: Hard-Fought Win
On January 4, 2025, the Falcons faced the Cosumnes River Hawks on the road and secured a gritty 69-58 victory. Athena Brombacher put on a clinic, recording a dominant double-double with 26 points and 19 rebounds, including an impressive 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. Her performance was supported by Lexi Peters, who added 16 points, including three key three-pointers, and Ursula Chen, who chipped in 13 points off the bench.
The Falcons used their defensive prowess and rebounding to stifle the Hawks, holding them to 0% shooting from three-point range and securing a 49-37 advantage on the boards. Despite a late push by the Hawks in the fourth quarter, the Falcons' composure at the free-throw line—where they shot an impressive 88%—sealed the win.
Looking Forward
With two consecutive victories, the Falcons have demonstrated their ability to adapt and compete in the Big 8 conference. The team's strong performances from key players like Brombacher and Fernandez highlight their potential to make a run as the season progresses.
Folsom Lake will aim to maintain their momentum and continue improving as they prepare for upcoming conference matchups.
