Falcons Clinch Conference Title with 3–1 Win Over San Joaquin Delta
With the Big 8 Conference title on the line, Folsom Lake men's soccer delivered exactly the kind of poised, disciplined performance expected from a championship-caliber squad, securing a 3–1 victory over San Joaquin Delta on Friday afternoon.
The win capped off an impressive 8–1–1 conference campaign for the Falcons, who controlled the match from the opening whistle despite conceding early.
Early Punch Doesn't Rattle the Falcons
Delta stunned the home crowd just nine minutes in when Emmanuel Ruiz buried a shot off a setup from Jordan Lazaro, giving the Mustangs a 1–0 lead despite limited possession.
But the Falcons didn't flinch. Instead, they responded with pressure, composure, and a quick equalizer.
Just eight minutes later, Thualfikar Alaskati struck back with a determined, unassisted finish at the 17-minute mark, tying the match and shifting momentum sharply in Folsom Lake's favor.
Taking Control Before Halftime
From that moment on, the Falcons dictated the flow. Their midfield tightened up, the back line stopped Delta from generating meaningful chances, and the attack pressed higher up the pitch.
The breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when defender Lhagraa Zagdragchaa pushed forward on a set-piece opportunity and drilled home a go-ahead goal. Aaron Valenzuela provided a perfectly placed assist, giving Folsom Lake a 2–1 lead heading into the half.
Closing It Out with Confidence
The second half belonged fully to the Falcons. With possession strong and chances increasing, Garrett Veirs put the match away in the 62nd minute with a clean finish to extend the lead to 3–1.
Folsom Lake's defense, which allowed only three shots all match, stayed airtight the rest of the way. Steady goalkeeping from Fernando Garcia and Danny Tejeda — who combined for two saves — ensured Delta never found a way back.
A Championship Earned
Statistically and tactically, the Falcons controlled every important category:
-
9–3 shot advantage
-
8 shots on target
-
11 corner kicks, indicating sustained pressure
-
Only one foul committed in 90 minutes
This was a complete team performance — disciplined, confident, and championship worthy.
Next Stop: Playoffs
With the conference title secured, Folsom Lake now turns its attention to postseason play. The Falcons have the foundation of a dangerous playoff team: a balanced attack, a back line capable of shutting down opponents, and players who deliver in big moments.
Friday's win didn't just clinch a league title — it showed that this squad is peaking at exactly the right time.
